It’s been said that the first thing one should do upon getting a new RV is to change the mattress. Well, it took us two months of RV living, trying to give the RV mattress the benefit of the doubt, but we can no longer hold out. We’re throwing out the old mattress…
If you look closely at the mattress in the truck, you can see an outline of two “valleys” we created when sleeping on this mattress for only 2 months. Plus, it’s very firm; almost like sleeping on a carpet covered floor. However, it seems we got used to the firmness after only a couple of days. The fact that it took on a “set” where we slept was the final straw.
The new mattress, a Wilderness Montana Hybrid RV mattress, can be seen here slowly taking shape. The factory said it can take sometimes up to 3 days to fully inflate and gain its strength. (It came vacuum packed and sealed in an approximate 30″x24″ plastic bag.) I looked at many mattresses mentioned online in various forums and through internet searches and nearly every one had several people say that their mattress developed valleys where they slept after a few days or months. The Wilderness is the only one where I never ran across any review that mentioned that problem. So that is the one I got even though it was a little more than I was initially willing to pay.
This post is a little out of sequence of how I had planned to document our travels. I won’t go into all of the reasons for that (laziness?) but I will try to get caught up before we head out again on January 15!
