Another entry out of sequence. I’ll get caught up soon…
I bought the RV in Tampa, Florida and drove it straight home. Took a month to get used to how everything works and put everything in it we’ll need on the road. Did a 4-day shakedown trip to a local military Fam Camp which went well. After that we were on our way.
I called it the “friends, family, and food” tour stopping several places on the way to Iowa where I was born and raised. Still have friends and family there (hence the “friends and family” part of the trip name). It was hard finding a place to camp near the end of camping season up there (it seemed EVERYBODY wanted to get out one last time) and I didn’t manage to snag several of my wanna visit/camp places.
I decided to try a first come/first served site at one state park and managed to find it full. Turns out many locals come out early in the week and reserve and pay for the entire week but don’t show up until Friday and Saturday. That’s a rant for another day…
It was mid-morning and I was getting, well, concerned. I looked at all the different Army Corps of Engineer parks in the area several times. Then, one site popped up as available and I jumped on it. Managed to get 4 days there, still somewhat close to friends and family. Then it hit – an unseasonably early snow flurry which meant that the temps were below 32 degrees. However, our little Solitude handled it just fine. The heat pump and furnace worked as expected and kept us toasty warm. Here are some more images of our “poor” little snow-covered RV:
And here are some more photos from around the park that morning:
This won’t be the last time we had snow on this short trip!
