Bellevue State Park is located on a bluff just south of the town of Bellevue, Iowa. From our last post, we were camped on the north edge of town.
According to local literature, Bellevue State Park is home to one of Jackson County’s most scenic Mississippi River overlooks. The park is rich in archaeological, historical and natural beauty. Atop a 250 foot tall limestone bluff, the main overlook offers a breathtaking view of the Upper Mississippi River Wildlife Refuge, Lock & Dam #12, and the quaint river town of Bellevue. Bellevue State Park is located in two separate tracts: The Nelson Unit and the Dyas Unit.
Many places were close for the season while we were there and it was rather cold and windy so we didn’t explore many trails in the park. (Hey! It DID snow on us while we were there as I mentioned in the last post!) But we did get a few images of the park decked out in full fall colors. First, here’s a look at the park layout:
